Portable Solar Power Systems

By

Are they useful?

In a word yes. A portable solar power system can be great for you for any number of reasons. Not the least of which is if you're in a living situation like an apartment or condo that won't allow a full size solar panel on your balcony.

You might be someone who travels to remote areas for work and electricity is not always guaranteed.

Or the cost of buying a full size pane might be prohibitve for you at this time. Whatever the reason they can be a great addition to our fight against global warming and climate change.

An emergency situation could arise such as a power outage from whatever the cause, hurricane, tornado, or salt water mist on the power lines. That's no lie the power company where I lived used that excuse once.

That coupled with a gas shortage could make a gas powered generator useless.

Another advantage of a portable solar power system is unlike gas generators they generally don't make a lot of noise if any at all. And no air pollution. Unless you're running a diesel generator on bio diesel there really is better alternative to a solar generator.

Most will allow you to run your items all day in the sun and for up to 4 hours at night depending on the draw. So just conserve power during times of low light and during rainy days.

Make sure though that the one you choose will give you the power you require. There's no sense buying a generator that's meant to power medium draw electronics if you want to power your refrigerator or chest syle freezer.

My reason for getting into this fight against global warming or what has inspired me was after reading the Greg Craven book What's The Worst That Could Happen? A Rational Response To The Climate Change Debate. An awesome book you should definitely buy.

Also watching a documentary called Fuel which was about the pursuit of bio diesel as an alternative to gasoline. Check out the links section.

Each of us can make small steps without waiting for the government to lead us. After all are they really good leaders anyway? But that's for another article and another day

This made for an interesting read, I would have loved to see some pictures of the "portable" ones though, voted interesting.
